Indra to Implement its Technology in Indonesia's Type-209 Submarines for More than €10M

Indra has been awarded the contracts to equip three of the Indonesian Navy's Type 209 submarines with its radar signal detection system and a Low Probability of Intercept radar (LPI) system. The value of this project, awarded by the shipbuilder Daewoo, is in excess of €10M.

The electronic defence system will enable the submarines to detect and analyze any radar signals there might be in their surroundings and identify the type of vessel, submarine or aircraft they correspond to.

It is a RESM (Radar Electronic Support Measurement) system based on broadband digital reception technology. This type of processing guarantees high sensitivity for the system, even in a dense electromagnetic environment, and extremely quick analysis capabilities.

The submarines will accordingly have a considerable advantage in terms of threat identification. The Spanish Navy has chosen this same technology for its S-80 submarine, as have its German and Italian counterparts for their U212A submarines.

This solution will operate in conjunction with Indra's Aries-S Low Probability of Intercept radar (LPI). It is a high-resolution system capable of detecting small targets. The low-level signal this radar uses makes it practically undetectable, so that it can “see without being seen”.

With this project, Indra has managed to close a major deal to become a technological supplier for the Korean company Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME), one of the world's largest shipbuilders. At the same time, it has strengthened its commercial position in Indonesia and in the Asia-Pacific region, where it has had a stable presence for more than 15 years, operating from offices in China, India, the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia and Australia.

Bulgaria to Transfer Fuse Bomb Technology to RI

Indonesia will soon be ready to produce live bombs for fighter aircraft, particularly the Sukhoi 27 SK and 30 MK, as weapons manufacturer PT Sari Bahari Malang will receive technology from Bulgarian fuse-bomb producer Armaco.

Indonesia has only been able to produce casing, warheads and ammunition powder, while importing fuse bombs.

“This is a major step forward for Indonesia. From now on we will no longer depend on other countries because we are able to fulfill the Indonesian Military [TNI] needs of bombs,” company director Ricky Hendrik Egam told The Jakarta Post on Wednesday in Surabaya, East Java.

Ricky, however, refused to reveal the financial value of the cooperation between his company and Armaco.

He said that with the cooperation, Indonesia could also have the chance to provide fuse bombs for Asian countries that use Russian-made Sukhoi fighter jets.
The company has previously faced difficulties in finding countries producing fuse bombs that were willing to transfer the technology. China has rejected the company’s request for cooperation.

PT Sari Bahari has produced bombs for Sukhoi fighter jets, both smoke and live versions, with weights ranging from 100 kilograms to 250 kilograms. The company has also exported 70 millimeter smoke warhead rockets to the Chilean Air Force.

Abu Dhabi inks Singapore partnership in Semiconductor Manufacturing Technology

Abu Dhabi-based Advanced Technology Investment Company (ATIC) has signed a MoU with Singapore Polytechnic (SP), a leading continuing education institution, to train future wafer fabrication technicians.
Khaldoon Al Mubarak, chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Affairs Authority, and Lee Yi Shan, Singapore’s Minister of State for Trade, Industry and Manpower formalised the agreement on the back of the fifth successful Abu Dhabi – Singapore Joint Forum held in Singapore this week, said a statement from ATIC.
The deal specifically focuses on the establishment of a collaborative partnership between ATIC and Singapore Polytechnic that will enable the development of a retooling curriculum program.
The program will prepare trainees for employment as Wafer Fabrication Technicians at the upcoming 300mm leading edge fabrication facility to be constructed in Abu Dhabi by GlobalFoundries.
'This is an exciting new step in the evolution of Abu Dhabi’s strong working relationship with Singapore,' remarked Ibrahim Ajami, CEO of ATIC.
The Singapore Polytechnic tieup, he said, was aimed at providing a new generation of advanced technology employees with the opportunity to train with and learn the technical skills required for success from some of the industry’s brightest minds.
“This marks another important milestone in our continued investment in, and development of, human capital resources and local talent to play a critical role in the establishment of a sustainable and vibrant technology ecosystem in Abu Dhabi,” he added.
Tan Hang Cheong, principal, SP, said the group was excited to be able to work with ATIC to build a ready pool of technically-skilled workers for the chip making industry in Abu Dhabi.
'And SP being Singapore’s first polytechnic is privileged to be able to share our experience in technical education. We look forward to growing this partnership and strengthening our presence in the Middle East,' he added.
According to Cheong, the retooling program will provide six months of preparatory training in Abu Dhabi. This will be followed by two years of training in Singapore.
The first year in Singapore will comprise classroom and lab-based learning at SP, while the second year will focus on hands-on learning at the GlobalFoundries Fabrication facility in Singapore.
